by the time you read this, it’ll all be over.
okay, here are my friday night predictions for the oscars this weekend, we’ll see how I do. going with the heart rather than the odds, so don’t be surprised if the final tally ain’t so hot:
okay, real quick, just the winners and any editorial comments I have time for:
picture: lord of the rings. there can be only one. seabiscuit sucked my balls, lost in trans is great but too indie (for the oscars, people– jeez, back off!), mystic river–great acting, moody, but basically bullshit, master and commander– didn’t see the boys on the boat, heard it was good, but come on, if you’re gonna go epic, you’re going with gandalf and the little people.
director: if jackson don’t get this, it’s a crime. sofia’s time will come, but not yet. fuck the rest (sorry, clint, your movie was pretty but….)
actor: murray, penn, murray, penn. I said before the SAG awards that the two of them might split the vote and jonny’d sneak in and look what happened (yeah, I know I didn’t put it in writing, but I did say it.) damn, but this is the best race tonight. any of ‘em would be fan-diddly-tastic, but really, i think penn will take it.
actress: charlize will most likely win– haven’t seen monster, but pretty-turned-ugly wins almost as much as “look, I’m a retard!”
supp. actor: cool folks in here, all of ‘em. gonna go with tim robbins, he and penn held that fuckin’ movie together. but ken watanabe deserves it too– I believed he was a leader of men even more than I did for viggo, and that’s saying something. can’t wait to see ken in the new batman movie, ah, yeah. though I’d support a write-in vote for ian mckellen or sean astin.
supp. actress: fuckin’ abomination of the night– renee’s gonna take it for her beverly hillbilly action in cold pile of shite.
animated feature: finding nemo, baby.
editing: rings.
cinematography: how is rings not up for this? cold mountain was pretty, the photography was definitely the high point, but maybe the big boat movie will win this one. i’m gonna say cold mountain will pull this out though.
costume design: ngila dickson, either for samurai or rings. both were amazing pieces of work– but I think she’ll win for samurai.
screenplay adapted: stupid fucking seabiscuit will probably win, but american splendor should. if it’s a rings sweep, then they’ll take this, but I think it’ll be horsey’s gimme prize.
screenplay original: lost in translation, even though so much was said with so few words. beautiful and right.
nobody really cares about any of the other stuff, so fuck it. enjoy the show.
