living in cheaptown
portland is a good place to live if you don’t have a job (or even if you do kind of have a job that sort of provides you with maybe two days of work a week). monday night, amy and i went out to both dinner and a movie (a kick-ass movie, i might add) for exactly 19.98. gotta love no sales tax. that breaks down to 11.98 for burgers and fish and chips and then, get this, eight bucks combined for the movie, an evening show even– no joke. the last movie I saw in LA was at the local santa monica AMC, and it cost me- just me- eight bucks for a matinee.
and then tuesday night I headed over to a club to see my friend jonah from LA and his band play…for free. and unfortunately for the band, it turned out to be pretty much a private show played for me, as outside of the drummer’s family and the next band and myself, there were maybe two other people at the show.
i don’t really have a point here, i don’t think, just that it’s not so bad to be broke when there’s cheap-ass stuff to do around here. now i’m gonna go entertain myself with some newly-lower-priced netflix action.
