head wounds are bloody
posting that picture of carrie proved to be a bit too prophetic for my liking–you don’t realize until you’ve actually split your head open how much blood is up there. we’re talking dripping down the face, covering my hands, splattering all over the bathroom bloody.
i have to say that i was pretty composed about the whole thing until, while attempting to get a look at the wound, i peeled back a bit of my scalp– that was really the point that i decided i should call in somebody else to tell me whether or not i was going to die.
after tracking amy down and getting her home (and some telephonic consultation with amy’s mom, a school librarian who has probably seen more injuries than most ER docs), we decided that, as the blood had mostly stopped, I was probably okay to ignore any panicky thoughts about heading to the hospital. apparently, the best treatment going is simply to shine a flashlight in somebody’s eyes to make sure the eye dilates– if either one does not, it may indicate serious injury. oh, and no napping. napping=bad.
so it turns out it was a pretty minor cut, thankfully, and i won’t even say how it happened ’cause it’ll just make you think i’m stupider than you already do, but suffice it to say it got me the afternoon off on friday. though i had to make up for it by working sunday afternoon (good thing there was no football on).
we also saw brokeback mountain on saturday, and while i thought it was very good, it was not nearly as good as i wanted it to be. i’ve got more to write about the movies of ‘05 at some point soon, but besides the need for some serious editing (see also king kong, my problem this year with movies is i’ve fallen in a lot of like, but not a lot of love.
