jobby jobness
in terms of questions about quality of life, it seems to be pretty far down on the scale to complain about living in a country that doesn’t have a nationalized healthcare system, especially as i’m currently reading mountains beyond mountains, about haiti and they’re complete lack of healthcare (or pretty much anything else for that matter), but complain I will. ’cause it’s more than a little mentally disabled, the healthcare system in this country. as a freelancer, i have no healthcare at all, and have been putting off getting any due to the expense involved in purchasing a service i will most likely rarely if ever use (barring any major accident, knock on wood). but on the other hand, i work from home, often work less than 40 hours a week and, while not loaded by any means, am able to live comfortably on the money i make.
but now i’m about to go on an interview for a job that will most likely (nearly definitely) pay me less money, have me work more hours and, horror of all horrors, probably require me to shave and/or dress on a regular basis. and by “dress”, i of course mean “will not allow pajamas to be worn to the office.” and i am in fact considering taking the job if offered for two simple reasons: consistency and benefits, benefits being the greater incentive as amy and i look to (someday) increase our family number. but am i crazy? should i even be considering this? i guess a lot of it has to do with what the office/people are like, what kind of flexibility there is, etc. and i do tend to thrive in office environments, which help me overcome my hermit-like tendencies and actually get out into the world. aw, crap, guess i’ll just wait and see. but if you happen to have any advice, please feel free to dole it out below.
