post-xmas and on to the new year
While we had a lovely Christmas celebration with relatives in the great state of Washington, along with a fairly harrowing ride back the night of Xmas, the best gift we got (among many fine contenders*) was probably word from the cardiologist a few days before the holiday that Archer wasn’t going to be heading to open-heart surgery in the very near future, though it’s still a possibility for the kinda near future. Basically, there maybe kind of sort of could be some tissue racing in to fill in the hole in his heart, and now we just have to wait and see what happens, though we’ll know in the next three months or so if it’ll heal itself (hopehope).

Archer says Happy New Year!
(I’m translating roughly from “ngee oo guh!”)
I’ll also say, and surely not for the last time, that for as difficult as these past few months have been, the rewards Amy and I have received not only from simply having our son but from so many people around us has restored and renewed a lot of our faith in humanity. We’ve probably never felt closer to family and friends — old and new, close and far away — than what we’ve experienced since Archer came home with us. And what better note could I ask for to start a new year?
*a special note for “santa’s elves” and their lovely, over-the-top, though much appreciated gift that made amy cry and made me realize, though I knew it already, that we have some of the best friends we could ask for looking out for us and our little boy: I hope that I am able in some small way to let you know that we would do the same for you in a heartbeat and will do so in future if the need ever arises. And if only you weren’t so anonymous in your giving, right this minute you’d be looking forward to some fat wet kisses (mostly from the dog) and repayment for life in the form of puerco pibil and biscuits and gravy.

At least it’s a holiday-themed shirt (even if it’s the wrong holiday)
