The seventh month

Archer,

This post is a couple days late because I didn’t want to jinx it — see, one of the big events that happened this month is you went on your very first cross-country trip with your mom, and I didn’t want to write this until you guys were back at home, safe and sound.

And return you did, of course, none the worse for wear, after — so your mom tells me — charming the pants off everybody you met in Massachusetts and being a super trouper on the plane. We were both pretty worried that the flight and the changes in pressure might hurt your little ear canals, but it sounds like you did great! And you got to meet a bunch of your mom’s old friends. And really, she’s just glad you waited till Friday to let loose with your bowels — since you hadn’t pooped for a while before she left, we were envisioning scenarios in which both you and she would be covered in poo while flying across the country. So thanks for holding it in until Friday.

This is the first time I had to sleep without the two of you next to me, and it wasn’t really much fun. I’ve gotten really used to your little kicks and grabs in your sleep as well as the occasional gurgle or sigh, and it was odd to have extra space in the bed at night… though the cat was pretty happy to have access to the bed for the first time in many months.

And somehow, over the span of just three days, I had forgotten how damn cute you are! Though I think you did come back with more hair. And somebody taught you a few more “words” while you were gone, ’cause you babbled up a storm last night at home.

Besides your trip, you had a couple other big events happen this month. Your Grandma Helen and Grandpa David came and stayed with us for over a week while your mom had a teacher-training workshop, and you were pretty perfect for them. You had to take multiple bottles a day and got to the point where you were knocking them back like a pro.

You also got to go down to the yoga studio and hang out there a few times while your mom was doing her workshop action. And you continued to burnish your foodie cred with a trip to Pambiche for some tasty Cuban food, though you had to experience that only as Cuban-food-flavored milk, of course.

As far as developmental stuff goes, you’re still working on your sitting skills and you’ve been rolling over more and more. You’ve also become pretty adept at sucking on your own toes and have decided that placemats are pretty much the best toy ever. And water, you love glasses of water. Though I finally broke down and got you your own sippy cup ’cause the mouth/shirt ratio wasn’t really working in your favor with a regular glass. It’s going to be pretty difficult to have to work all week before we really get a chance to hang out again, the three of us, but Friday’ll be here soon.

love,

your pops
