I’d buy that for a dollar (movies 65-70)

65. Push: very pretty indie twist on the x-men, but pretty meh.

(here starts the bit of an ’80s run I’ve been having…)

66. Romancing the Stone: still a lot of fun but not quite the level of inspiration I had in my head.

67. Robocop: you just can’t argue with the hyperviolence in this flick. pure spectacle, and all the more awesome for it. too bad the transfer to blu-ray is kind of crappy.

68. Commando: rock! everything about this movie is still fantastic, from the soundtrack to the villain to the one-liners to the one-man army that is the governator. even better than I remembered. Everything in it is completely absurd and there’s no way an audience would ever buy this today, but it’s a minor classic.

69. Fast and Furious: somehow, by accident, I’d seen all three of the previous installments of this storied franchise and so felt I had to complete the run, no matter how inane it might be. And, oh, how inane it was, though maybe slightly less so than the first three… the two thoughts I had after finishing (and actually, vocalizing throughout while watching) were, 1, how the hell did vin diesel ever become a movie star with that face and that monotone and, 2, who was the genius casting director that realized the only way to soften the impact of vin’s only expression (one of constant constipation) was to surround him with similarly wooden actors like michelle “permascowl” rodriguez and paul “whoa” walker?

70. duplicity: clive owen+julia roberts should equal some sizzle, but this was pretty boring. both looked hot but were cool to the touch in this wannabe heisty/thriller/ocean’s 11 type thing. too bad.
