The condensed (and much smarter) version of “Tropic Thunder: the post-mortem”

If you don’t want to read the post below, just watch this– I’m not quite where Carlin is regarding language, but he’s a lot smarter than I am, so maybe I’ll get there someday:

God bless George Carlin. Too bad he’s gone and can’t appear at either of the political conventions. How refreshing would that be? Anyway, all this reminds me of seeing ‘Hair’ in the late sixties and watching people walk out of the theater in disgust over “fuck” being said over and over. Too bad, ’cause if they’d just stuck around, they’d have stopped hearing the F word and just gone with the play. Everyone ought to take a deep breath, and stop taking everything so seriously…and it is about the context, not the words themselves. That’s what we ought to be working on, the source of hatred, bigotry, ignorance, sexism, racism, etc. But that’s just my opinion. I’m going to see Tropic Thunder right after I get to Dark Knight.

Robert Downey Jr. cracks me up… he’s got a real knack for not taking himself too seriously

[...] — intellectually — in the larger point, that words are words, etc, just like in this Carlin bit. But that doesn’t stop my blood from running cold the second I hear or see the word [...]
