One weekend to rule them all

Not bad, weekend, not bad.

Just a small sampling of the goings-on:

- We had a kick-ass barbecue, populated by friends new and old (who mingled a bit, even!), with nary a toddler knocked over by our giant dog! The weather cooperated (after a bit of a shaky start), good food was had, and minimal leftovers remained, which made cleanup pretty easy. And Archer had a great time, wore his glasses for a fair bit, and got stuffed on a mixture of raspberries, purple chips, and watermelon. He also belted out the phrase “have it beer!”, and I don’t know where that came from. I got to nerd it up, talking comics and movies while tending the grill full of tasty meats and veggies, and even went so far as to show off the few remaining toys in my collection that haven’t yet been absconded with by my wee boy. oh, and mmm, hot dogs…

- Amy and I saw not one but two good movies this weekend, which was desperately needed after the horrorshow that was the combination of (46) the wolfman and (47) the road, both of which I watched by myself earlier last week, and the less said about those two flicks, the better. But on Friday, we finally caught up with last year’s deserved oscar winner, (48) the hurt locker and then Sunday night we actually went out — amazing, I know — to a theater, to see (49) inception, which lived up to the hype. As Amy put it as we left the theater, it was the first time in as long as she could remember that she actually left the daily grind behind nearly completely for 2.5 hours. christopher nolan can definitely keep making movies. no movie jail for him. (that bigelow, she’s not bad either… I mean, hurt locker was no point break or near dark, but it still rang a few bells.) Much love to the roseway: a non-chain theater, all digital all the time, and cheap cheap cheap!

- I got to spend someone else’s money on a new TV/entertainment system and got to set it up, which the A/V nerd in me just adores. Still need to tweak the calibration and set up some wireless action, but that’s just bonus. Though it did make me slightly jealous of my own semi-antiquated (in dork years) home theater equipment…

- For about a week or so, Archer’s been saying something that sounds like “allablaa!” and then will launch himself at whoever’s closest in a fit of mad glee… and last night I finally figured out what the heck he was saying. Not that it should’ve been a surprise, seeing as “woodybuzz” or, in his more silly moments “woodybuzz-alaaa” are asked for each and every single day and most of his pretend play/dialogue is based around those two movies.

- And I know it’s not the weekend anymore, but I’ll be up laaaate tonight to support the mighty BCC and grab the new (and final!) Scott Pilgrim book. Got my fingers crossed that the movie version holds up to the books.
